Link to download (it's free!): http://johnfn.bandcamp.com/album/thoughts

It's melodic and atmospheric electronica with hints of orchestral ideas. If you've been following me on Newgrounds, you've heard these pieces already, but if you haven't, here's a convenient place to download them all :)

I called it Thoughts because I write music about what I've been thinking about.

This morning I wrapped up "starlight dreams" and submitted it and went on a run. I got back not 40 minutes later and had THREE new reviews, and there was some serious detail and thought put into writing them. This made even more amazing because I've gone on a serious spamming spree recently and I'm kind of amazed that you guys haven't gotten incredibly tired of me and gone home or something.

And just in general, I mean, it's really awesome to have such great feedback. I remember a couple of months ago when it wasn't guaranteed that I'd get even a single review on my song, and that was honestly really depressing. It felt like shouting into a void, you know?

You guys are great. <3

Ugh these guys just have such great composition. Very nearly every song is excellent. I'm currently addicted to that one part of "My Schedule" (you'll know it when you hear it) but "First Day of School" is fantastic, as is "Hesitation" and the ending theme.

It makes me sad that such inspired composition goes virtually unnoticed and the radio is full of I-IV-V-vi stuff. It's the way of the world I guess.

Stop what you're doing and listen to this.

This is the album of the year (even though it's an EP) and I've decided that Burial is the savior of modern edm.

Hyperbolic? Me?

It's been 10 years since I released my first song on Newgrounds. It was a complete disaster, but fortunately I've gotten a little better since then. :)

Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way.

Check it out if you get the chance! It's about robots in love. aww.

I made it in 72 hours as part of Ludum Dare. I made all the graphics, art, and did all the code over last weekend. :)

Awesome action shot incoming:

I might put it up on Newgrounds eventually.

P.S. I owe some people some reviews. They are coming! :)

Since I've hit the all-important milestone of 2^7 fans, I'd like to say thanks to all you guys by offering to review any track of yours that you want! Just leave me a link on this post and I'll try to think of something insightful to say. (You could also leave a link to something non-audio, but I probably won't be as insightful.)

If you haven't favorited me yet, I'll still leave you a review if you do favorite me :)

Oh my God...

Time's Scar Listen to this one first, then when your mind is blown, listen to the rest.

Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World

Secret of the Forest

Singing Mountain

New life goal: BECOME YASUNORI MITSUDA.

Seriously though. The other day I was listening to the soundtrack for Chrono Trigger (the first soundtrack he composed) and I was so astonished by how consistent and brilliant it was. I mean, I played Chrono Trigger when I was younger, and I remember being amazed by "Wind Scene" and "Battle with Magus" but man... now I think that almost everything on it is perfect. It's filled with amazing tracks that feel like they came from some alternate dimension.

The chords are really unique (Battle with Magus is iii-IV-iii-V - I mean, have you ever seen that before? It's like some demented take on I-IV-I-V and it works so well!), the technical aspects are interesting ("Sealed Door" switches between 5/4 and 3/4 almost imperceptibly), and the melodies... argh don't even get me started.

Such inspirational work.

So I guess I won the NGADM!

I'm still finding this a little hard to process because there was a lot of ridiculous talent in this year's contest. Please, do yourself a favor and check out steampianist, kor-rune, headphoamz, etherealwinds, JacobCadmus, and SoundChris (each linked with my favorite song of theirs, except for steampianist who made the choice impossible). They are all incredible musicians.

There were a bunch of other amazing musicians too. Don't even get me started.

One final thank you to the judges of the NGADM for running the contest without a single hitch. It's been an incredible learning experience, and it's all due to their hard work.

(And finally, a shout out to TheDoor6, who was literally my only fan for a good deal of the NGADM!)

---

Long term plans.

I wanted to write down some of my longer plans on here so that you guys could hold me to them if I slack :D

0. Continue spamming NG

1. Record some guitar into my songs

I actually sorta know guitar. I just need to get some decent recording equipment. I also eventually want to move from acoustic to electric.

2. Learn how to sing

This on the other hand I have no clue how to do. If you have any tips, let me know.

3. Score a game

I originally got into music composition because I was a game developer and wanted to write music for my games. I think that I can finally close this loop. Plus I've gradually been wanting to write an album, so I could kill two birds with one stone.

---

Finally, I want to listen to some new music to broaden my tastes! Shoot me a comment with your favorite jams.

Electronic Emotion (vs shemusic) by DDRKirby(ISQ)

What's the similarity between these two pieces of music? FIND OUT... when I submit my final NGADM piece!
