Lacking something

[First off let me just mention I find it great you're reviewing reviews. I WILL GET THE 10/10! You just wait.]

Anyways, on to the review. Like I mentioned previously, your game seems to be missing something. I'll give you that it is a solid game, and nothing really seems to be wrong with it, but its lacking a certain element to actually make it fun and addictive. I would highly reccommend adding sound to the game to set the mood, ect. I think this could help it out.

Second and probably the most important is your graphics. I mean, they were just blocks. It would be nice if you added, oh, I don't know, some particle effects to the blocks moving around perhaps?

Third. The game was too linear in my opinion. Get that purple one, get the other purple one, okay, done. I love the games where it's more like, okay, gotta get that one, wait, before I do that I have to hit that switch over there, okay, now go get it, then I have to go trip an alarm system... anyways, your game seemed like you were just doing stuff, and it felt more like work then actually playing a game.

Fourth, some levels would last a long time, and then reset to the beginning when you messed this up. This bothers me because you can't speed it up; you have to take it the same speed every time. This just makes the game tedious.

Fifth and finally, the learning curve at the beginning was way too slow. I was probably one of the people who could have just skipped to level 7; I reccommend saying something like 'if you've played other mouse games before, just skip to this level'

Other notes: 'Click here' looks kind of sloppy. The font was kind of dull as well...

In closing, don't mind my harshness because really I was just focusing on the less attractive aspects. It really isn't that bad of a game over all. It just needs a few modifications :)

review of your review:

+++++ Basically, you make a bunch of great points. I would be content with just one piece of constructive criticism. You give me 6!

+++++ Everything seems well thought out. Points are valid and well explained.

+++++ After making your criticisms, you elaborate (to the level required) and go on to make a bunch of great suggestions.

++++ You organise your paragraphs well and the whole review's really easy to read and follow. Some other long reviews can become a muddle to read when referring back.

-- I honestly would have appreciated a quick summary of your play experience. I am led to believe you died at least once. Did you get to the end? Did you die a lot? I have to make as/presumptions there. A couple of lines detailing how you played would have been nice. Something like: 'Clicked to begin level 1, played through to end, dying 3-6 times on later levels. First death on level 12. That was probably the hardest for me.' would have been ideal.

-/3 Some typos. 'ect' in para 1. Another one exists, though I forgot where it was. I'm only mentioning typos because your review's so good I need to nit-pick. ;p

'Click here' looks kind of sloppy. The font was kind of dull as well...

-/2 Those notes could perhaps be elaborated upon a bit more. Not really necessary, but would have been nice. Maybe.

- My only other negative comment is that I'd have liked maybe one SPECIFIC bit of praise. Your closing comment helps me realise that you liked it, but it would have been nice to know what exactly you liked. As it is, I'm not sure if it's just because you like the genre, or if you felt my game actually did anything particularly well.

overall

The constructive crit. you give is of an incredible quality and a great quantity.

This review made me smile in appreciation. Definitely the best review I've gotten since I started reviewing reviews.

I feel almost overly greedy not giving you a 10. But I'll try and base my review scores on Edge's quality threshold. (Computer games magazine. Been around since Snes/MD. Given 10/10 to 4 games ever - Mario 64, LoZ:OoT,
Gran Turismo, Halo.) Although maybe /slightly/ less strict.

I delayed reviewing this review because it was so close to a 10.

9/10

Now... any chance of you reviewing my 'Skears DX' game? I'm curious to know how you feel that compares as I made it after this. Also curious to know if you find the last level too long.

If you feel like reviewing anything else of mine, have a look at 'Asteroids' and maybe 'Spot the Difference'. The others I don't care about feedback to the same extent (though I always appreciate it. ;))

Man, that sounds cheeky/greedy. Just that you've given brilliant feedback. I appreciate it massively and if you reviewed any of those other things in the same way, I'd appreciate that too.

Thanks for one of the best reviews ever.

I'd say 98% of us can't play mutliplayer

I know it feels like your selling out but you have to make a multiplater option or people like me just wont get anything out of it. I hope you do for our sake.

dude, read my comments next time...

Problems

There were no back buttons. Your on(press) code actionscript doesn't work (And I'm not a noob so don't call me one, I know how to fix it). Last and most importantly, you didn't give enough description to anything. You just said do this, do this. Add more. Thanks.

DragonFruit-Rock responds:

I might.

Kinda funny

I liked it. It was a little to short to be great but still kinda funny. Graphics, although mostly stolen (with permission), were good. And the music pwnt! ^_^ <- anime smiley face of doom.

Al6200 responds:

Good, thanks for liking it. The art was good, I do agree, but calling it stolen is a little bit misleading, as its really the artist who gets free advertising and the flash artist who gets good gfx. Glad you liked it.

Pretty cool

The thing that bothered me was that I got touched and was sent back to the beginning. That just sort of ruins it for me.

Luckily for you, I had already voted 5 before that happened.

Also, I'm sure you're going to hate me for saying this because the movement system musta taken a while to put together, but I didn't like it, it was too cumbersome to click like a million times to go places.

But all in all, that was pretty cool, I'll watch out for more stuff from you.

reelbigcheese responds:

thanks for the long review XD and thanks for the 5 lol

Not bad

It wasn't uber or bad. The random humor made me chuckle at times (mainly the thing about Dune where it said "what does this have to do with glue" and then when you clicked it it said "also not a real choice")

Graphics: Well most of them aren't yours, and text really doesn't count as graphics.

Style: Humor gave it a little style.

Sound: Is that my music I hear? PERFECT TEN!! ^^

Violence: Well. There was none.

Interactivity: wasn't super complex, but still good.

Humor: Mentioned above.

Overall: It aint bad. It isn't pwnage, at least not yet, because the answers to the questions can be improved, and interactment could be enhanced too (how about a custom cursor? Maybe something that says NO NOT THAT ONE when you mouse over something? I derno)

Keep workin' on the flash though.

Al6200 responds:

Yeah, thanks for the review. I posted this response pretty recently, so you know how much my flash skills have improved.

The humor is pretty cheap in hindsight, but I'm glad you got a little out of it.

The graphics pwnzor, no idea why you would think otherwise. Especially the high quality 3D spinning balls of no relevance.

I suppose the humor gave it some style

Yeah, the code had only a handful of simple variables. But it felt pretty cool when I made it.

Yep, I have continued to work on Flash (as you cleary know).

Im suprised this is so high

Its kind of...random, but thats ok, we still like it :P I just had to review after hearing the foster music, I LOVE THAT SHOW!! I think there should be some more meaningless destruction, like maybe destroying those big buildings and having them crush stuff. And maybe a view of like a highway of those wierd robot cars. Then maybe you could click on one and control it, and then have it wreck into other cars and cause like a whole traffic backup... (I like meaningless violence)

Nocturnal-Devil responds:

controlling one of the cars on a highway s a great idea. so is creating the traffic block. maybe i'll make it so that you can either play it as avoiding the other cars or hit then if you like to create a traffic blockage. good idea. thanks for the comment :)

little effort --> great score, good game!

and by saying little effort do i no way mean that it's a piece of junk. i could make this in maybe a day, yet it's a good game, good music, good storyline ... the only part i didn't like is when you said "seems like another mystery" - it totaly broke the serious feel of the game, not like it matters. and evildog rocks! so does his music. and to think someone my age thought of it... groan. back to the drawing board.

potbellybob responds:

I'm very sorry I did not get to this review in time. Yes, this game only took a day to compile. The graphics are what took forever. I don't know if it would have taken less time if I didn't do both World 1 and World 2 together. Unfortunately, though, there was a small bit of the game I couldn't fit in to the file size. It was edited out for posting on newgrounds.com. Watch out for some of my new games. I am making episode 2 soon. Peace out!

...lol...

I swear, the sound brung that games rating up like 2 points! The sound is probably why everyone likes it. good sound choice. :p

Fadeliss responds:

yea a long time ago a made a version on with bad sound and it didnt score as high as this one did.

i always forget to respond to PMs. its not because i hate you, just because i forgot!!!
