Ways to get me to give a game 5 stars = make a game that synthesizes music and gameplay really well. My god the music works so well here. It's an amazing standalone piece already, but when you put it in the background of game, it just becomes so much better. And the deep chords that play when you mess up!

I know a lot of people were complaining about the shadow being hard to see but from a metaphorical point of view, I like it. I was kind of feeling like it was a graphical glitch, which was a very unsettling feeling.

I eventually got stuck in one of the levels where you are moving you and your shadow in nearly duplicate levels at the same time. I couldn't quite figure out how to line it up so I'd be desynchronized from my shadow and I kept dying. Maybe this is metaphorical of depression too?

You should think about doing ludum dare (google it)! Perhaps you can make more gamess :D

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Whoah, thanks Johnfn! I really tried to implement the music in the game well, so I'm glad it seems as though I succeeded. The song was actually originally made about half a year ago, with no game to accompany it. But I decided to redo the piece, as well as add all the sound effects, purely for the sake of the athmosphere of the game! :'D

"And the deep chords that play when you mess up!"

=> This is my personal favorite. It pleases me that the sound suits the music so well, at most parts.

"I know a lot of people were complaining about the shadow being hard to see but from a metaphorical point of view, I like it. I was kind of feeling like it was a graphical glitch, which was a very unsettling feeling."

=> I feel pretty much the same way. Although the shadow can be difficult to see, I think that it might be for the best from as you said, a metaphorical standpoint :3

Not to worry; you're not the only that has gotten stuck on some of the levels. If you're on the second one of those two, I'll give you a hint. The roof is higher for the shadow, but I made it difficult to notice :D If one jumps over the goal, and then to the top, before you fall down, you have the solution :p

"Maybe this is metaphorical of depression too?"

=> It is more meant to symbolize that you don't observe your surroundings properly, since everything is negative to you. That is, if we're talking about the same level. If you're on the former one, without any text, I don't think it really symbolizes that much :')

"You should think about doing ludum dare (google it)! Perhaps you can make more games :D"
=> I know nothing of coding, but I've spoken with another one of the game developers in this Jam, and it just might be that I'll participate in some way, or maybe musicwise XD

Thanks a lot for checking out my game, as well as for leaving an awesome review!!!

I liked the part where number go up, but didn't like the part where number go down. Can make sequel where number go up faster? Thanks.

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

Try some of the advanced strategies from the wiki http://number-go-up.wikia.com/wiki/Number_Go_Up_Wiki

Pretty good

A problem I noticed was that the white of the arrows would often blend in with the white of the background. I would fix that. Just add a song selection and more complicated arrows to hit and you'll have a good game on your hands.

konsole responds:

Fixing the arrows and adding more music, just seeing how well it would be received here on newgrounds. Thanks for the input.

GREATEST GAME EVER

Just make the controls fixed, add more enemy types, and then make it more easy to satisfyingly murder enemies. Then release it as 2.0. All done.

Jacquies responds:

And give it more of a purpose, yes?

I really like this game.

Very nice. I haven't played a game this good in a long time. I love the gameplay idea, and the execution is expertly done (I love 8-bit games, too). Some more variety (especially in the earliest levels, where I often end up ;) is the only real improvement I could think to make. Awesome job!

EpicShadow responds:

I agree on the early levels, some more variety early on isn't a bad idea. The later maps are rather creative though, so I encourage you to practice up and check those out. thanks for the review, medals are being worked on by NG staff now and should be up in a day or two.

Wowie

I've been thinking of making something of this style for a long time. Darn can't believe you beat me to it, and not only that, but its extremely well scripted with clean graphics and good music. However I think this mighta got downrated because all of the characters are shapes. Still really well done.

TheUnsupported responds:

I think using shapes for characters was a big risk, and it sure does have result my game to have a lower score. But I didn't get lots of complain about that and people seem to have enjoy my game and thats what is important for me.

Thanks for your review.

Neat, but, ARG THE BUGS.

First things first: great preloader.

Ok. I used my boomerang and just got stuck there holding it. Huh? Lets try this again. Closing out and reopening.

Now it's working fine. This time I swung the net first. You might wanna check into that little bug.

What's that little thing above my head? a STAMINA bar?? Link doesn't have STAMINA!! At least not in the real games. Lol.

The gameplay is really smooth. It really felt like I was playing Zelda, EXCEPT: the boomerang needs to bounce off them, and make that little boink noise that it always makes when it hits guys. It can't just go right through. That gives the players 'feedback' and will make the game feel a lot better.

Alright. The same boomerang holding but not throwing glitch happened. You gotta look into that.

Still, the game wasn't so bad. I took you down in graphics since they weren't yours, and style since I typically link that to graphics.

P.S. I would LOVE to see a Zelda clone from the SNES, or even better, a whole new adventure. Seriously. You'd be my hero. I've thought about doing it myself, and I'd even offer you some code I've written out except that it seems like you have done it way better here. On the other hand, if you actually ever decide to do it and need some actionscript assistance I'd gladly help out.

Takato responds:

The boomerang bug is well known and hopefully fixed.

The stamina var adds an element of strategy to a game that originally didn't need it.

The boomerang originally bounced off enemies, but it didn't have enough utility when it did. Freezing one poe out of 50 isn't really that useful.

About the Zelda clone. I flat-out refuse to make a clone of ALLTP. Not only would it be so much work that I would literally be making it for years to come, but it would also be insanely uncreative of me. I would much rather make a new game with the same graphics.

Cool idea but flawed.

For one, the controls seemed to be a little sloppy. Was it just me, or were they inverted on the right screen? That's not usually a good idea :P

Second, at times I would just stand at the counter and hit space in front of some guy like 50 times and watch my money go up. Why was that?

Another thing: I didn't understand what was happening. A quick brief of what was going on would have helped immensely.

Other then that: it was a cool game, with a great concept. It just needs a little bit of beta testing and cleaning up.

Ennglish responds:

Cool thanks for the feedback. I think I released it prematurely without fixing the bugs. That's what happens on too little sleep.
How does one take down a submition? Should I bother resubmitting it? or work on a new one?

Good.

But I docked a point because it's basically just Fishy (a different Flash game) with powerups. Can't you be just a little more original? Also, I remember reading that spacebar was a fireball, but all it seemed to do was pause the game.

mofunzone responds:

Thanks for the sincere review.

About the controls, it depends on what player you're playing as. Double check with the instructions and let me know if the problem still persists.

Thanks for playing the game :)

Sorry for the blam

Resubmit this, and put a stop(); in the actions section of the frame with the dressup.

kissfromanubis responds:

Unforunately, I keep trying to do that and it's not working. ;-; This is awful!

i always forget to respond to PMs. its not because i hate you, just because i forgot!!!
