More singing plz! Next time make your voice a little louder in the mix (especially during the chorus), and put some reverb on it and compress it a little. Also don't feel afraid to auto tune your voice until you get to have really good pitch, though you did pretty good pitch-wise.

You did WAY better than what I was expecting for a first go! Keep it up!

TaintedLogic responds:

Aww, thanks Johnfn! I believe I already explained to LucidShadowDreamer that I couldn't figure out how to add reverb in my version of Garageband (as pathetic as it sounds...), but compressing them is probably a good idea. I appreciate the encouraging review! ^^

Sounds good to me. I heard that traditional Spadezer chord right at the end which I liked. I wanted it to lead to more though ;_;

BTW that one melody at :49. One good trick is that when you have a note in a melody landing right on the beat, drag it back like a quarter beat or so, so it comes a little before the beat. It makes the melody more flowy or ... something... idk... just try it, you'll like it.

Spadezer responds:

I know what you mean. Having the lead come in a tad soon either lets the melody note settle a little bit or I can also imagine that it introduces the beat. I don't think I would ever think about doing that but I will definitely have to try it out.

Thanks for the tips.

Really nice. Except that piano sound. Man I'm sure you can find a better piano sound than that. Addictive Keys has a 4 octave keyboard for free, and it sounds pretty good!

The violin is great! :D

Troisnyx responds:

Thanks! I think I should simply use the Steinway on its own rather than that and a Rhodes.... *blush*

You are the sine wave solo master. I could listen to you solo with sine waves for hours.

The rest of the song is nice too. Hehe. But the sine wave is the best part ;-) Glad to see more tracks from you.

What a great track! (Except why is that amazing whistle so far back in the mix rarg.) Why don't you write more music? Well I guess there's NGADM coming up so I'm hyped for that but I mean other than competitions. Hehe.

bassfiddlejones responds:

Competitions are what get the blood moving for new music! It's hard to find time these days, so when I have a fire under my butt I get more done. Looking forward to seeing what you put out! Thanks for the review! (I will make the tin whistle more prominent next time!)

In the category of "johnfn's biggest NGAUC disappointments", coming in at a 2000 pt score, what is Jabicho and Peachymaiden not making it to the finals? This song is not perfect - the mixing, while better, still needs a lot of work - but it is still a fantastic piece! It's just beautiful - the composition is, again, excellent, and I absolutely love the live cello. I'm wondering if the slower pace dragged it down a little in score, though it doesn't personally bother me all too much.

Keep it up, you guys! My hypothetical overall score for this one would be something like 9 - 9.5/10

Jabicho responds:

Thanks johnfn! :D I learnt a lot from your mixing suggestions in this song and the previous one! (and I'm still learning)
And thanks for the review! I'm happy you like this song! it means a lot :)
I'm very thankul for all your words! (I'm sure peachy too!) :D

I wasn't your judge this time, but for what it's worth, I really liked this one too. I was a bit surprised that it ended up getting *such* a lower score than your previous track. I mean, it's not *quite* as good, sure, and perhaps the vocals are a little further back at points than I would have preferred, but man!

The overall vibe from this one is just so awesome. I was really surprised to hear such an effective and successful style transition from you (while still retaining your psychedelic style). The "Pyramids falling down" section is just so wonderfully chilling. Apocalyptic psychedelic rock, indeed!

Again, I didn't assign you a score because I wasn't your judge, but I would have given this something like a 9/10. Super cool track.

i always forget to respond to PMs. its not because i hate you, just because i forgot!!!
