Today I am thankful for YOU

Posted by johnfn - January 31st, 2014

This morning I wrapped up "starlight dreams" and submitted it and went on a run. I got back not 40 minutes later and had THREE new reviews, and there was some serious detail and thought put into writing them. This made even more amazing because I've gone on a serious spamming spree recently and I'm kind of amazed that you guys haven't gotten incredibly tired of me and gone home or something.

And just in general, I mean, it's really awesome to have such great feedback. I remember a couple of months ago when it wasn't guaranteed that I'd get even a single review on my song, and that was honestly really depressing. It felt like shouting into a void, you know?

You guys are great. <3

:D.

Aww, you're welcome, Johnfn! :D You deserve it! ...and about that "shouting into a void," I know the feeling! XD Anyway, I'll review your newest tracks either this afternoon or tonight. School has been rough recently, if that's any excuse. Also, if you don't mind my asking, how did you get the name "Johnfn?" According to your Soundcloud, your first name is not "John" and your middle and last initials are not "f.n.," and that made me very curious...

Thanks dude! No worries at all.

OH CRAP YOU FIGURED OUT ABOUT MY NAME. SHHHH DON'T TELL ANYONE...

But which one do you think is the real name, and which is the fake? :o...

Ahhaha, I thought I was shouting into a void too (excpected ofc. since I just joined), but I got my first review on those very same 40 minutes, thanks to a review I posted on "starlight dreams". So you're welcome, and thank you!

I think it's the other way around :p We don't get tired of you, we're impressed by the amount of activity in such a short time! Some people grew tired of the chipstep though haha XD

You're great ;)

Thanks dude! I owe you a good review sometime. I can't promise exactly when but ... IT IS COMING >:O

This morning I ate some breakfast and went to school. I come back not 12 hours later and I see johnfn's news post with THREE new comments.

"Shouting into a void" is such a great way of describing that feeling that I think we've all had at some point, whether on Newgrounds or just in life. Imma start using that now. :P

If you sucked, we'd get tired of you. The thing is, you don't suck. That's why we stick around and keep reviewing your stuff. Because your stuff doesn't suck, and we want to make sure it doesn't suck even more. Which is one way of putting it, I guess.

Haha yeah. I don't remember if I was the first one to come up with it - probably not.

Thanks dude, I appreciate it.

It's no problem sticking around for your stuff. Your music and even links are though-provoking and cool.

Thanks man! Umm... I really didn't intend this to become a "compliment me" thread but OK WHATEVER

Splendid to hear that you're getting some well-deserved recognition, friend. Concerning your reply below: go on, take those compliments! Take 'em like a man!

I was going to ask, since I've done some very basic looking-up of it: what software do you use to make your chiptune tracks? I've just bought a couple of brilliant albums from an artist named 'Fearofdark' on Bandcamp, and since he mentioned something called 'Famitracker', I wondered if you used that too.

Take care and keep up the audio! You'll go far.

Thanks :)

Honestly, you can use just about whatever you want to make chiptune! I use Ableton Live, but the thing about chiptune noises is that they are some of the most basic possible noises, so every DAW has the capability to make chiptune.

Famitracker is actually different than most DAWs because it's a "tracker" which means it essentially approaches music writing in a different way. It's also very religious about preserving the constraints of writing actual chiptune (like, in video games) in that it only gives you so many waveforms and channels to use. Limitations can breed creativity though, so it could still be an interesting thing to check out.
